Save Photos to a Comment or Note (Mobile)

When you finish writing an observation on the mobile app and save it to your Comment Library, you can also attach photos from that observation as reference images on the comment. This means your comment library entries can have visual examples alongside the text, making it faster and more consistent to apply the right comment with supporting photos in future inspections.

Background - What is the Comment Library?

The Comment Library is your personal bank of reusable observation text. When you write the same type of defect or note repeatedly across different inspections, you can save it to the library once and quickly apply it in future jobs instead of typing it from scratch every time.

Each entry in the library has:

  • A title
  • A description
  • An optional recommendation
  • An optional severity
  • A category and subcategory it belongs to
  • Reference photos, the new part

How to Save Photos to a Comment

After filling out an observation on the mobile app:

  1. Tap Save to Comment Library, the book or library icon on the observation screen.
  2. A dialog asks whether you want to Create New Comment or Update Existing Comment if the observation was already based on a library entry.
  3. Choose your action. The comment text is saved to the library.
  4. If the observation has any photos, a second screen immediately appears titled Save Reference Images?

The Save Reference Images Screen

This screen shows a grid of thumbnail previews of all the photos attached to the current observation. You can tap any photo to select it, tap it again to deselect it, select as many or as few photos as you like, tap Save to attach the selected photos to the comment as reference images, or tap Skip if you do not want to attach any photos to the comment.

The photos you select are stored alongside the comment entry in your library. They do not replace or remove the photos from the current observation, they are simply copied across as references.

What Happens Next

Once reference images are attached to a comment, they travel with that comment entry in your library. When you apply that comment to a future observation, the reference images are available as a visual guide to help confirm you are applying the right comment to the right type of defect.

This is particularly useful for common defects that look similar but have subtle visual differences, and for training new inspectors because the example photo makes the intended use of each comment entry clear at a glance.

Comments vs Notes

The same photo-saving feature works for both entry types in the library:

  • Comments, also called defects, for issues that require attention or repair.
  • Notes for informational observations that do not represent a defect.

When saving either type to the library, you will be offered the same option to attach reference photos if the observation has any photos on it.

Tips

  • Photos in your library are reference images only. They do not automatically appear on inspection reports when you apply the comment.
  • You can skip attaching photos if the current observation’s photos are specific to that job and would not be a useful example in the library.
  • You can update an existing comment’s photos by saving the observation again and choosing Update Existing Comment.
