Inspection Status Questions and TREC Format
SwiftReporter templates can optionally include inspection status questions that help you record whether individual systems or components were inspected, not inspected, or not present. These questions also drive progress tracking in the Complete Report editor.
Inspection Status Questions
You can enable inspection status questions in the template settings:
- Open Templates: Navigate to the Templates section and select a template.
- Open Template Settings: Use the Template Settings panel in the template editor.
- Enable inspection status questions: Turn on the setting for inspection status questions.
When enabled, SwiftReporter automatically adds an Inspection Status question for each subcategory that participates in the report:
- Typical options include values such as Inspected, NI - Not Inspected, and NP - Not Present.
- The status question appears at the top of each subcategory in the Complete Report editor.
Impact on Progress
Inspection status questions are treated specially by the progress engine:
- The status question itself is not counted as a required answer for completion.
- If a subcategory's status is set to NI - Not Inspected or NP - Not Present, all other questions and required notes in that subcategory are treated as optional for progress.
- This lets you accurately mark items as not inspected or not present without blocking report completion.
TREC Format
For inspectors following the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) format, you can enable TREC-specific behavior in the same Template Settings panel:
- Turn on the TREC format option.
- When TREC format is enabled, inspection status questions are automatically enabled and updated to use TREC-style options.
Existing templates are updated so that status questions match the TREC expectations while preserving your existing answers wherever possible.
Editing Templates with Status Questions
Inspection status questions are managed automatically by SwiftReporter:
- When you enable inspection status questions, the system adds them across relevant subcategories.
- When you disable them, those questions are removed to keep your template clean.
- If you toggle TREC format on or off, the existing status questions are updated rather than recreated, so historical answers remain valid.
In the Complete Report editor, status questions appear alongside your other template questions and required notes, and they work together to control progress and how missing answers are handled.
